IPad Pro - Everything you need to know

Apple's highly anticipated - 3rd gen IPad Pro's are on the shelf with whole lot of changes both on the inside and on the outside. These IPad's like every other ones are pushing the boundaries of a tablet , really trying to drive them into the laptop territory with their insane computing capabilities. The devices have a lot to offer and here's everything you need to know about the new 2018 IPad Pro's.

DESIGN & BUILD

Starting of with the design, as you can clearly notice - It is completely redesigned. The sides are now flattened out while the edges are slightly rounded. The IPad's can now be made to stand on their sides if you ever wanted to do it for some reason.

The devices are claimed to be 25% less in volume over the previous generations and are only 5.9mm thin which really is something to write about although it gives away in terms of structural integrity as you can clearly see from the IPad Pro tear-down videos.

Moving on up to the front, the display is now edge to edge - matching up to today's standards.Unlike the previous generation's IPad Pro's, there are now only small equally sized bezels on all the four sides,  thus  bringing down the current 11" IPad Pro's size to the previous generations 10.5" size and the 12.9" IPad Pro's size has been reduced too.

FaceID

TouchID is now no more as most of us knew or anticipated and is replaced with the new FaceID with the inclusion of the TrueDepth sensor up at the front of the IPad. This inclusion has made possible the addition of Animoji's, Memoji and Face portraiture. Unlike that of the IPhone's FaceID, the FaceID on the IPad Pro's is designed to work in whatever orientation the device is placed in which is great considering that most people tend to use their IPad in landscape orientation.

DISPLAY

The new and improved Liquid Retina display with the ProMotion technology is a marvel to look at on either of the Ipad's.

The 11" IPad has a resolution of 2388x1668 while the 12.9" variant has a resolution of  2732x2048 and it's also worthy to note that either of them share the same pixel density of 264 ppi (pixels per inch) and feature a wide color gamut which helps make the display stand out and look really stunning.

CAMERA

The camera on either of the IPad Pro's is a single 12MP camera found on the IPhone XR at the back and a 7MP TrueDepth camera up at the front for your selfie needs. The primary camera has several modes some of which include the Smart HDR mode, Portrait mode (handled by software's) and so on. The camera is capable of recording 4k videos upto 60fps but unfortunately does not possess Optical Image Stabilization.

PORTS

Talking about ports, for the first time ever in an IOS device Apple has decided to ditch it's proprietary Lightning port for the USB-C which a very much welcomed move. The port can be now used to  to charge your Iphone, hook up to your external storage, connect to your camera for transfer of files and also to connect to an external 5k display.

The headphone jack has now been removed and you now have to either get a $9 adapter or bluetooth headphones to satisfy your music needs.

HARDWARE

Moving on to the star of the show - the A12X Bionic chip with the neural engine, one phrase - it's a BEAST. The second generation IPad Pro's were called an overkill for the performance they had on offer and the third generation here takes it to a whole new level. The A12X Bionic is an octa core processor with 4 cores for power - usage and the rest 4 for efficiency .There is now an 35% improvement on the single core performance and a staggering 90% increase in the multi-core performance. The graphics chip is a 7-core unit and the graphical capability has now been increased twice as much as the previous generation. Just for perspective the IPad pro now offers XBox One S level performance. These devices are now much - much more powerful that most portable laptops.

With this level of performance on offer Apple is starting to bring desktop level games and applications (AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop) for us to work with on the IPad Pro which again is splendid news.

There is still no official word on the amount of RAM on offer but it is anticipated that it will be no lesser than 4GB for the base variants,

The battery life remains the same with Apple claiming to offer about 10 hours of usage on the Wi-Fi variant and 9 hours on the cellular variant.

CONNECTIVITY

Connectivity has also been improved and the devices can now simultaneously support dual band Wi-Fi while Bluetooth has updated to Bluetooth 5.0. The cellular variant supports Gigabit-class LTE, with support for up to 29 bands.

ACCESSORIES

Several new accessories have also been introduced for these new devices.

The new Apple Pencil being one of them is flat on one side and can be attached to the IPad Pro's magnetically for pairing and charging purposes. The new gen Apple pencil now supports gestures such as double tap whose use can be customized for every application individually. The new apple pencil costs $129 and is only compatible for the new third generation IPad Pro's.

A new Smart Keyboard Folio has also been introduced which also magnetically locks in to the Ipad Pro's 102 magnets found inside and pairs up instantaneously whilst offering protection for all the sides of your priced possession.

PRICING

Both the 11" inch and the 12.9" Ipad Pro's are offered in 4 configurations - 64GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options. The 11" Ipad Pro starts at a price of $800 while the 12.9" Ipad Pro starts at $999.

That pretty much much covers everything about the newly launched Apple Ipad's.
